Goldeneye The way it was meant to be seen

For anyone who grew up with a Nintendo 64, GoldenEye 007 was the game to have.  The story behind it is pretty crazy, but I won’t get into copying it’s Wikipedia entry.  The below video takes some of the famous scenes from the video game which also happened in the movie (for a movie adaption, it was pretty good).  However, all the sound effects and music come from the video game version.  That’s right, the ridiculous slaps, gun noises, cries, everything.  It’s all from the video game.  It’s quite hilarious to be honest.

This time of year, you have to remember the good old days, before there were achievements, when you and your siblings were just trying to see how many Russians you could kill with the rocket launcher and infinite ammo before you got bored of the level.  When you turned on DK mode (easily the best hidden cheat since the Konami code) and pile up the hats of the dead Russians as you killed them.  Ah, what times…

Super LASER

There’s really no need for this, but like a good America, it had to be made.  I don’t know if he’s American, but it doesn’t matter, this is American to the core.

I need one.

Contact Shot

Everyday you learn something new.  I remember watching Contact many many times, but not being a cinematographer, or really anyone with an eye for filmography, I never paid too much attention to some of the great camera work in the film.  So, that being said here’s a behind the scenes commentary on how the scene was shot:

You don’t often think of too much detailed special effects from the mid 1990s, and when you do, you usually attribute it to terrible films.  Listening to that though you realize just how much there is going on in a seemingly simple shot.

Earth Day

Welcome to Earth, 3rd Rock from the Sun.  Today is the day that we celebrate it.  I’m not sure why, something from the 1970s.  Anyway despite what you might think you know about me, I do support the earth.  I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.  In fact, I’ve gone far out of my way to visit some of it’s most beautiful places.

Yes, that’s right, I’m talking about the National Parks of the United States of America.  Currently there are 61 of them.  (Whether or not some actually deserve to be named parks is up for debate, but not here).  I have been to 28 of them.  Not everyone is represented on my website yet as a full review, (there’s not enough time in the day), but I have photos from them all.  I’m not posting 28 photos here, just some of my favorites.  So, check out the jump, read all about it, and remember, stay in school.

When you gotta Go

You don’t need to go to the extreme lengths that this woman went to, but you could.  Actually, I don’t think that you could.  I don’t think it would dry or harden as much.  Also I’m not sure why she had an entire carton of litter in her bag at school.  Also, I know that this is staged but it’s still crazy.  Totally worth of the WTF subreddit.

Today is Important

Do you know what today is?  It’s an important day.  It comes once a year and people all over the world have wondered why.

No, it’s not The Super Bowl, it’s The Day the Music Died.  Made famous by Don McLean’s classic song, American Pie, the world of music forever changed when Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens died in a plane crash in Iowa on a cold morning in 1959.  Sixty years ago today the world of music was broken.

McLean would go on to write the song that generations of Americans have spent trying to figure out, yet there is still a healthy debate as to what every line means.

One thing is certain though, the song is a masterpiece, but so were those who died in the plane crash.

Listen to the song, and remember the good times of the late 1950s.

Yes, Water does spin backwards in Australia

I just thought that you should know that.  Yes it’s not that scientific of a test, and yes all the theoretical math and science should answer the question for you, but I thought you should know for yourself by watching this six minute video.  Don’t say I never did anything for you.

This is ridiculous.  Plain old ridiculous.  Apparently it’s some Red Bull event called Crashed Ice.  It is as dangerous as it looks, one of those people broke their tailbone, which is apparently excruciating.  I have no intention of ever trying this.  Watching it on the other hand, I could be for that, maybe.

Deter Package Theives

I like Mark Rober, some of his videos are cool, some are awkward, most are enjoyable.  This one is really interesting he goes into how he stalked his package thieves, then how he enlisted the help of his friend to design and build a glitter+fart bombing dummy package.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but the best part is the ending.  You can trust me and him when he says that it’s over-engineered and just get to the goods.

He clearly built a few of these, if he were smart next year he will start offering them for sale for people.  Though I do wonder how cost-effective it actually is given the 4 phones he might have lost forever and the LTE data plans he paid for them.  Granted, I’m sure they were burners, but still.

Super cool Toy Car Tracks

It’s Christmas time and little kids all over the world are worrying about what Santa is going to give them more than what the spirit of the season is all about.  Well in order to bring their hopes and dreams down, I’m going to show them a set of insane Hot Wheels tracks that they wish they could build and they wish Santa would bring them.

It’s too late now mommy and daddy, you can’t get this stuff anymore.

I like the first one in the skate park, that was pretty ace.

Here’s a better view of #6, it’s not a track it’s an art installation.  Boring.  I do like the speed scale though, that’s ridiculous.  It goes to show that you would never withstand the G-Forces of it.

Number 4 is ridiculous.  There are wooden loops, it’s reminiscence of Action Park in it’s high qualityness.

Number 2 is pretty awesome, from it’s humble beginnings.  It looks simple but then you see how gar along the house and the yard that it goes.  I do like #1 with the PVC pipes holding the track for parts of it.  Pretty neat.

Anyway Enjoy Children.  And if you’ve managed to build a track of equal or better value, let me know.
