Halo: Infinite

It’s been a long time coming, but we finially have some concrete video for Halo: Infinite – AKA, Halo 6. It looks…good:

I gotta say, the gameplay itself looks like a cross between Halo 5 and something else. What that something else is, I’m not sure. It looks fast paced and very much like H5. I was never a fan of sprint, or clamber and they’re both there, but that’s not the end of the world. The grappling hook is neat, I hope it doesn’t turn into something stupid though.

All in all, I’m excited for it. I will buy it of course, but will I play it again, or will I 100% it and then uninstall it to go back to the good ol’days? That remains to be seen.

Here’s the official trailer:

Halo Trailers

I’m not sure what caused it, but I started watching all these old trailers/advertisements for various Halo Games. There’s something about them that I don’t really remember from any other video game. Call me nostalgic, call me biased, but the marketing of all the Halos was pretty unforgettable. Be it the live action ones, the diorama ones, or the cinematic game rendered ones, everything was high quality. I remember most of these, some better than others, I remember being excited.

Like I said, I don’t know why, but I’ve watched this whole list and it’s really something different that I don’t remember anywhere else.

Trackmania Halo Edition

Reddit user ducain23 posted a track in Halo 5 Forge which reminds me an awful lot of TrackMania.  The dumb reddit video system doesn’t let me embed videos on other places sadly, so you’ll have to go to reddit itself to view the clip, needless to say, it’s pretty cool.  I like the way he’s used the geometry to counteract gravity and keep things from falling apart.  I’m not so sure I would be able to drive on this course without falling off.  I’m totally more of a gunner, and my game stats will back that up (though they haven’t been refreshed in years sadly).

I can envision a really interesting game mode here with drivers, gunners, and passengers.  The passengers are holding a bomb and you gotta drive through moving checkpoints to drop it off.  It might work similar to stockpile from Halo Reach.  It’s a work in progress but I think it could be tons of fun.

The One

That’s what they hoped the new Xbox would be.  The One.

Well, not really, it was just based off of the love of The Matrix, and ideas that it would be a unique, immersive world.  The rest of the video goes over some of the history of how the video game console came to fruition.  The idea that the Kinect was going to re-birth the gaming system was pretty ambitious of them considering that Nintendo started that trend previously.

Any Hootie and the Blowfish, that was a pretty neat video, wasn’t it?  I really liked the part when Balmer crashed the party and insisted that the new console be a White Tower of Power.*

*Ok, I made that part up.

This is how Trackmania on the Xbox One should have been.  At least I’m sure the controls would have been better.

The Art of the Title Screen

I may have posted about Naked Jakey before, or I may not have.  I’m too bothered to look up my usual post history.  I found him with his Halo Changed Everything video series. In the above, he goes over the under appreciated world of Video Game title screens.  Seriously, how often do you pay attention to those?  I like the categories he chooses, and overall, I agree with the choices.  I’ve played a number of the games he mentions, but also I’ve never played, or heard of a few of them.

It’s a good retrospective of the design, and how these subtle things can make a good game, even greater.

Halo meets Zelda

I’ve posted quite a bit of DIY maps forged in Halo 5 that blend the chaos of some classic Halo matches, with other universes.  This one is pretty neat, if just alittle uninspiring in terms of unique elements.  It’s really just a room with some Zelda Themed wall decorations.  Granted, that’s all Griffball maps are, but come on, the Harry Potter one was awesome and unique.

Halo in Halo

I’ll say what I want about Halo 5 – I hated it, it was the worst of the series – but the Forge abilities are astounding.

Xbox Live user xXBarthXx and presumably some buddies have made a literal Halo in the Halo game.  I find this pretty neat.

As the reddit comments suggest, a map like this that actually rotated would be pretty ace.  Hopefully 343 reads these forums and boards and will have something similar in Halo 6.  However, it will probably be half baked.  Here’s to hoping though.

Here’s a video of the gameplay.  It looks pretty interesting, but the video needs some editing, I don’t want or need to watch an 11 minute match.  But you can!

Jabba’s Sail Barge: Halo 5

Xbox Live user TyGoss recreated Jabba’s Sail Barge scene from Return of the Jedi in Halo 5’s Forge.  Seriously, it’s such a shame that I hate the multiplayer of Halo 5 or I would be back in playing it right now.  These levels look like a ridiculous amount of fun!  Maybe they’ll make it better in Halo 6, maybe, I don’t have faith though, none at all.

All I Play-Oh

On the eve of the release of the greatest game on the Xbox 360 I re-present you this great video showing the game that re-defined everything.  Ok, maybe I over-exaggerated a bit, but like the general theme of the video, Halo is all I Play-Oh.  It was the reason I bought a Xbox, and an Xbox 360, and an Xbox One.  Unfortunately with Bungie’s departure from the series, it probably won’t be a reason to buy any future Xbox that comes out.  Halo 5 was my least favorite of the series, there was not enough focus on The Master Chief, there was too much “evolved” spartan battle that just didn’t fit the Halo universe in my mind, and more importantly, there was no sense of urgency in the game.  In the original 3 it was one man against the Covenant and The Flood.  Both are missing in 5, instead you’re helping some Elites to kill other Elites, and you’re all too politically correct to call each other by what you really want to say – Elites and Demons, no it’s Sangheili, and Spartan.  Such a shame…
