How Much Corn is In a Can

It turns out, esteemed scientist and YouTube Star CuriosityBeyond determined there are roughly 1.5 cobs of corn in a can of corn. It’s hard to say how big the can is, but it looks like a normal can you would make for a summer BBQ. I’m not sure about his cooking methods, but that’s not my microwave, I have no ability to judge.

You should keep this in mind while you cook your first corn on the cob this weekend. Save those cobs, then buy a bunch of cans of corn for 4th of July and use this method. It’s certified faster because there’s no shucking involved. There’s no messy strings on the corn, and it cooks faster too!

The Hail Cannon

Did you know about these? I didn’t until cursing around reddit (more so than usual being stuck inside). It’s a Hail Cannon. Apparently it’s useless, but it’s still pretty crazy. Basically a controlled explosion directed upwards to try and break up hail stones before they can fall to the ground. I’m not so sure how well it would work, and the research is inconclusive because the weather is, as always unpredictable.

Strange Juggling Balance Thing

I really don’t see a need for this, but it exists because someone made it.  That someone is Ameron Rosvall, a prop maker and juggler (according to his Instagram), also the owner of a pretty sick beard.  He’s got some pretty neat contraptions on his Instagram, but that one above is the king.  He looks so satisfied getting the balls to remain in their loops just dancing around.  He’s got some pretty good hand-eye-chin coordination too, check out this one:

The smaller ring works too 😃

Take Care, Asshole

This isn’t the first time I’ve watched actual YouTube Ads as separate videos.  It’s a testament to the quality of said videos that I’ll sit and watch an entire ad before some other video plays.  (Un)Fortunately that was not the case this time around.

I Don’t Know

Really, I don’t know.  I’m not sure why it exists.  But you must watch it.  And you must be terrified.

The Aztec’s Were Crazy

Once you can get past the terrible narration, you can appreciate the absolutely terrifying nature of this whistle.  It’s theorized that these whistles were used to strike fear in the enemies.  Or to send send the human brain into the next state of being.

I guess when you don’t have metallurgy, or guns, or those fun things, you have to make your own strange things to pass the time.

This video is somewhat easier to watch because the woman can carry a conversation better:

She also has a collection of whistles to blow though and terrify you with.

Cast Iron Fish

Cast Iron Fish Tank

Did you know that in the Victorian era, elaborate cast iron fish tanks were all the rage among the nobility?  I didn’t.  I assumed fish tanks, because of the glass, plastic, electricity, and silicone necessary were a relatively recent commodity.  I would be wrong.  Tropical Fish Magazine has a detailed write up on what went into designing and making these fascinating works of art.  The most ornate and sought after were those made by J.W. Fiske, an Ironworks company out of New York. Now a days, ornate fish tanks can fetch upwards of $15,000.  Which if, you ask me, is far, far too much to spend on a simple (freshwater only) fist tank.  Do you realize the amount of pond I could build with $15,000?  It would be insane.  You’d never get to look at it at eye level like this.  But if I could spend $15,000 on a pond, I would make sure to have some sort of underwater viewing.  Maybe a tunnel, or window underground.  Yea, that’s right.  A window to the sky underground…

It’s Just Hotdogs

Being sneaked into people’s pockets.  The guy is quite fun to watch.  I love the PG attitude he has throughout.  Too often now people curse in the videos that otherwise don’t really warrant it.
