The Laser

I’ve sunk more hours into playing Halo 3 than I have done a fair amount of other things.  Many a night was spent awake with my stable of friends on Social Big Team Battle.  Usually the 8 of 12-14 of us would get together, sometimes we’d break up into two groups of 6, or 7 this way we could constantly get matched together.  Granted, this was back when there were a few thousand people playing H3 daily, but we still never had much of a challenge getting matches.

Even with all the theater, and the tools at my disposal, I rarely went back to re-watch videos of my crazy amazing kills, and crazy amazing deaths.  I was having too much fun playing the games themselves and trying to make new crazy amazing experiences.

I’m not quite sure if any video game will ever be able to recreate that level of experience I had with Halo 3.  I wore out multiple Xbox 360 controllers playing that game.  I Red Ringed an Xbox 360, and I have more deaths than kills, but I had some great time, with some great guys back in the hay day of online gaming.

I still miss it, and I want to play.  I think I will dust if off this weekend.  I just hope that I can find a match.

VR Mario Kart

I gotta say, I never really was a fan of the Virtual Reality games and ideas.  But watching this side by side video of what the user sees, and how they have to interact with the game to play, I like it. A lot.  Is it practical for home use, not a chance.  Would I pay $5 for a $5 minute experience at a mall, or an amusement park or other event, heck yes.

Rt. 1

Route 1 LEGO

An intrepid designer built Route 1 from the original Pokemon games (possibly from Gold/Silver, not Red/Blue).  I like the various touches of trainers, and “wild” Pokemon that appear throughout the level.

Pokemon was something of a revolution back in the day.  I remember my first time I beat the Elite Four.  I was so nervous and worried that I would run out of potions, or revives, or something.  Even to this day, I get worried, even with my level 97 Dodrio, I still don’t think I’m worthy sometimes. Man, I should go play X again, it’s been awhile, I bet the guy I sent to the Global Trade Center finally got traded!

This is how Trackmania on the Xbox One should have been.  At least I’m sure the controls would have been better.

Installation 01

Community re-built games have a tendency to look amazing, but never get anywhere.  I’ve never heard of Installation 01, but they just released a trailer for their work, you can watch it here:

It’s a pretty damn good trailer, and it’s amazing at how closely it seems to have followed the source material of primarily Halo 3.  Though, they have no release date planned.  At least not yet.  Maybe when E3 starts next week we’ll get some more info, but I have a feeling this will be it for awhile.

All that being said, I’m not much of a PC gamer anyway, and my Xbox 360, and Xbox One still work, and the community is still somewhat present in those games, so I have plenty to play.  Due to that, I probably won’t be getting this game, or downloading it, or whatever when it inevitability doesn’t come out.

Halo SkeeBall

Halo’s Forge mode is one of those zany things that will never cease to amaze you.  Yes, there has been the more traditional death match maps made, but the video above is a version of Skee Ball, the classic arcade game where you’re not allowed to climb on the ramps.

Halo Mjolnir Mix

Seriously, the opening of Halo 2 is one of my favorites in Video Game history.  Watch it below: For those that don’t know, the song played is the Halo Theme Mjolnr Mix.  The above video is that song, rendered on a bunch of floppy disk drives and a scanner.  Pretty ace.

RCTW

The latest game in my favorite PC game franchise has been released.  Rollercoaster Tycoon World.  You can buy it now on Steam, it’s only $34.  That’s not bad, it harks back to the older times when games were cheap.  Hopefully it’s not meant to show it’s quality, as many of the reviews on Steam give it harshly negative aspects.

I’m optimistic.  I might buy it next week after Thanksgiving.  Hopefully there will be a respected review published of the full game, not the Early Access previews that most of the Steam ones are.

Secrets of Super Mario 64

With the advent of emulators, and being able to mess around with the underlying game code we’re able to learn all sorts of new interesting stuff about games.  I also find it interesting that people spend the time to dissect the game to find these little inconsistencies.

One such person is YouTube user UncommentatedPannen, he’s uploaded dozens of videos detailing the little parts of Super Mario 64.  It’s super interesting all of the research and effort he spent analyzing the level and finding this slope that’s just slightly off to cause the coins to spawn wrong.

Ash’s House

Pokemon House

Well, it looks like it anyway.  Instagram user Pixelized Creations made this really dang good representation of the generic house from Pokemon complete with a garden, and Ash battling Gary.

What’s even better, and somewhat hard to tell from the above angled photo is that it’s a 3-D representation of the scene.  The monochrome colors were chosen to more accurately represent how Pokemon looked 20 years ago on the original Game Boy.

Here are two more photos showing a different perspective where you can better see the depth of the project:

Pokemon Garden.

Pokemon Battle

Originally the project was going to be standard 2 dimensional, then a background was made, then after some thought it morphed into the 3-D scene you see above.  Everything goes really well.  The color scheme, the layout, the characters.  It’s all pretty ace.
