Halo 64

Last month we saw the first trailer for Halo Infinite and it looked, underwhelming. A few weeks ago we heard that Halo Infinite is being pushed back to 2021 and I think that’s for the better.

Last week, twitter user @Hoolopee recreated the trailer in the style of Super Mario 64. Now, I don’t want to say that it’s better, but the retorness of it makes it enjoyable. Would I play this, probably as a novelty for a day or two, but I don’t think I would go as crazy all out for achievements as I currently do with Halo as it exists now.

It’s still pretty ace looking if I were to say so myself. But it also shows just how far technology has progressed since the mid 1990s.

Halo: Infinite

It’s been a long time coming, but we finially have some concrete video for Halo: Infinite – AKA, Halo 6. It looks…good:

I gotta say, the gameplay itself looks like a cross between Halo 5 and something else. What that something else is, I’m not sure. It looks fast paced and very much like H5. I was never a fan of sprint, or clamber and they’re both there, but that’s not the end of the world. The grappling hook is neat, I hope it doesn’t turn into something stupid though.

All in all, I’m excited for it. I will buy it of course, but will I play it again, or will I 100% it and then uninstall it to go back to the good ol’days? That remains to be seen.

Here’s the official trailer:

Halo Trailers

I’m not sure what caused it, but I started watching all these old trailers/advertisements for various Halo Games. There’s something about them that I don’t really remember from any other video game. Call me nostalgic, call me biased, but the marketing of all the Halos was pretty unforgettable. Be it the live action ones, the diorama ones, or the cinematic game rendered ones, everything was high quality. I remember most of these, some better than others, I remember being excited.

Like I said, I don’t know why, but I’ve watched this whole list and it’s really something different that I don’t remember anywhere else.

Super Mario And Then Some

There’s quite alot going on in this video. I have to say, it’s super well done, I bet it took them alot of time to get it all working. Then again, there’s not much else to do during quarantine, so making super ace videos of video games and stuff like this is a great way to pass the time.

Goldeneye The way it was meant to be seen

For anyone who grew up with a Nintendo 64, GoldenEye 007 was the game to have.  The story behind it is pretty crazy, but I won’t get into copying it’s Wikipedia entry.  The below video takes some of the famous scenes from the video game which also happened in the movie (for a movie adaption, it was pretty good).  However, all the sound effects and music come from the video game version.  That’s right, the ridiculous slaps, gun noises, cries, everything.  It’s all from the video game.  It’s quite hilarious to be honest.

This time of year, you have to remember the good old days, before there were achievements, when you and your siblings were just trying to see how many Russians you could kill with the rocket launcher and infinite ammo before you got bored of the level.  When you turned on DK mode (easily the best hidden cheat since the Konami code) and pile up the hats of the dead Russians as you killed them.  Ah, what times…

Poke-Ball

I remember 23 years ago when Pokemon Red and Blue came out.  I remember playing it on this long Thanksgiving weekend.  My brother and I didn’t know what we were doing, but we were having a blast.  We only had one Gameboy at the time (the giant OG one) so we had to take turns playing while the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was on in the background.  I remember being hooked on it though.  Absolutely hooked.  We played for hours, days even.  Somehow, some way latter on in the year without the internet we heard about the rare-candy trick and we immediately went to power up our guys.  To this day, Red is the only game where I caught all 150 of them.  I’ve played most of the mainline games over the years too – Gold, Emerald, Black, Heart Gold, and X.  I skipped Diamond/Pearl and Sun/Moon, I’m not sure why, probably because other things were happening and I didn’t have time for the grind.  I never got as hard core into it as others, grinding for the absolute best IV/EV pokemon who knew moves he couldn’t.  That’s just too much work, I wanted to catch them all, and I’m happy to let someone else be the very best.

The Video ends when Mario Dies

Sadly over the last dozen years I’ve moved away from Nintendo games and products and gravitated towards Halo.  I still have a special place in my heart for the big N, but I just don’t have the time for their things anymore.  I’ve played Mario Maker, and watched my friends people play some of the other big games – Zelda, Mario Kart – but since The Wii, I haven’t had a new Nintendo System.  I think that’s sad, but I also know my limits, I don’t have the time anymore.

What is not sad however is watching people play these insane Mario Maker levels.  I can’t really remember any of the great ones I’ve watched over the years, most have been while doing other things and I haven’t paid attention.  I’m sure I could look through my YouTube history and find them, but who knows what else I would find.  Thanks to reddit though, you have the above short and sweet video.  You’re welcome.

It’s All I Play

Sadly I haven’t had a chance to play this as often or as much as I once used to.  But this song is apt and describes some of the most fun times I’ve had in my young adult life.  I probably spent a few years of my life playing games of Halo with people young and old, men and women (though, really mostly men), and near and far.  It’s hard to describe how big of an influence Halo was on the world of gaming, it’s sort of like Super Mario Bros.  Halo 3 was my favorite of the series and easily the one I spent the most time in.  To this day I still play around in it, but I’m rusty, very rusty, and more easily frustrated and prone to controller throwing.  Anyway, Halo 3 came out 12 years ago today, fire up a game and enjoy.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Calculator

It might be a secret, though it’s not anymore, I love RollerCoaster Tycoon. It’s my favorite computer game. I’ve spent countless hours playing the game, beating the scenarios, making my own crazy parks. I’ve hit the object limit in a park before and it sucks when you have a really ace park. OpenRCT2 aims to fix that issue. I’ve yet to try out that version of the game, though it looks promising.

I enjoy playing the game and making big interesting parks.  While I am a programmer, the thought of programing a calculator into the game is beyond me.  That’s what Marcel did though.  And it’s dang impressive.

It’s a Halo Christmas

I like the nice poem, and the overviews of the different custom made maps.  Overall the video above is a good throw back to the golden days of Halo.  I’m not particularly confident that 343 will manage to fix Halo with the eventual release of Halo 6. though I reserve the right to be wrong.  In the mean time, enjoy the video, and remember, The Forerunners are watching.
