Why aren’t you watching the MarbleLympics?

https://youtu.be/qQrrvYgHgv0?list=PL-RXmnw758NEmqDTCP9LpGTaOoRIn4s1A

Event 9 just went live and if anything, these games have proven to be a shocker!  As much of a fan of real life curling I am, I couldn’t watch the Marblelympics version.  It was just too boring.  I’m sorry.

However, the other 8 events are quite engaging, you should skip around the playlist, watch at your leisure.  It’s quite fun!

Cauldron

Did you watch the Opening Ceremony of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games yesterday?  I watched most of it.  Unfortunately I was not up early enough to enjoy it live.  It was quite entertaining though.  I did very much enjoy the lighting of the cauldron.  In honor of the Games, watch the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron from all the games from 1948, through 2016.  As many different nations have hosted the games, there are that many different types of ways the cauldron was lit.  My favorites are below:

  • Moscow 1980
  • Sarajevo 1984
  • Los Angeles 1984
  • Sydney – 2000
  • London 2012

2018 Olympics

Are about to start!

Are you ready?

You’ll have to be up in the early morning this Friday to watch the opening ceremony live.  That is if you can find it streaming somewhere online (if you’re in America).  Dang stupid NBC is putting it on a 10 hour tape delay for “prime-time”  Oh boy I just can’t wait!

The Winter Marblympics

https://youtu.be/9yUrKrDDQaM

The Qualification rounds for the 2018 Winter Marblympics are on.  So far there are 2 events, Snow race and Curling.  Unlike Curling in real life, the Marblelympic version was quite boring.  Like the Summer games, this looks like it’s on track for a very fun filled series of events, and if the snow race was an indication, surprises are in store.  Please watch the event and show your support for the Marble team of your choice!

Russia != Olympics

Earlier this week the International Olympic Committee decided to ban Russia from the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.  This is sad news for a variety of reasons. None of them will come off as good, or nice, but it’s terrible to make the entire group of athletes pay for the sins of a few.  Really, does the Curling team need to worry about doping?  What about all the NHL players?  Surly the NHL does their own drug testing to prevent them from cheating.  (Not that it matters because the NHL isn’t allowing the players to participate in this year’s Olympics anyway).  But still, you get my drift.

Anyway, there’s still a chance some of them will choose to compete under a neutral flag.  Such a shame though.

The 2017 MarbleLympics

https://youtu.be/05VXgM6KrhM?list=PL-RXmnw758NH0bj5KIbpiDrLygvT7k9un

I stumbled on the qualification round for the 2017 MarbleLympics last night.  I proceeded to watch the first 4 events before I realized the time.  This morning I finished the entire games.  What a rush of excitement it was.  I won’t give many spoilers, except to say that there were plenty of upsets and new records set this year.

The production quality of this series is top notch, it looks professionally done.  The commentator – Greg Woods (F1FanWoodsie), does a superb job on the entire games, he has gotten very into each of the events and shows genuine enthusiasm for everything.  I like all of the little details added to the games – each marble has a name, each team has a history and the crowd is very into everything going on!

Replays, picture in picture, overviews of the standings.  Everything about this is amazing!  Each of the courses is very well thought out and unique.  Block pushing was fun, the sand race from the qualifier round was my favorite I think.  Fidget spinning was a long event, too long in my opinion, but still enjoyable to watch.  It’s almost more fun to watch then the real Olympics, and I love the Olympics!  I can’t wait to see what the 2018 games bring about.

Olympics!!1!!@1

The 2016 Olympic Summer Games start today!  And for the first time in my memory, I will not get to watch much/any of the games.  But honestly, I like it a lot here in Alaska, so I guess I got nothing to complain about.  Let’s see if America can keep up the medal haul, or if Zika and corruption will win the games instead.

You should go watch them, after all, they only come once every few years, and just like the Russian ones in 2014, this year is full of controversy and corruption, so either way it should make for some good entertainment!

Tug of Oars

This will be the newest Olympic sport.

In all seriousness though, this isn’t that bad of a training exercise.  It’s usefull for all sorts of things, especially those when you need to battle a strong current, or escape those dangerous Communist drug dealers that are chasing you down for taking the community’s cocain for yourself, you selfish bastard you.

First Person Ski Jump Training

Winter might be in it’s last licks for the season, and The Winter Olympics might be over, but it’s never too early, or late, to start a new passion.  That’s just what this 10 year old girl is doing.  Starting ski jumping.

Instead of this being a professional, like the Luge video, this is a young girl just starting out on what could hopefully be a long, fun career that would end up seeing her at an Olympics (hopefully one in America in 2026).  If that’s the case, hopefully we’ll look back on this video and show the world that she never had fear.

Anyway, doesn’t it make you want to start learning something like that?

Alternate History Thursday – Food

conflict

One of the rare actual Thursday additions of Alternate History.  Oh well.

Anyway, the above is the storefront of an actual restaurant in current day America.  That’s right, this restaurant, which goes by the name of “Conflict Kitchen,” only serves the food of enemies of America.  Every couple of months they change the menu to a new enemy.  It’s interesting at the least.  If you want to visit it, you’ll have to travel to Pittsburgh PA.

What does this restaurant look like in the Alternate History version of America?  Well it doesn’t.  Because Freedom of Expression is not a concept that the Communist Americans except.  So this restaurant actually exists somewhere over in Europe, except they only have Communist American food, and it’s just corn.

And, to keep with the Olympic themed month, here’s the Closing Ceremonies of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow USSR.  I only watched alittle of it, the long boring stretches of nothing really got to me.  And it looks like someone flagged it as containing copyrighted material, and it’s not available in (this version of) the U.S. anymore.  Oh well, I’m still gonna include it here, because not all you readers are in the great country of America.
