Glue Gun Art

This is pretty intense, it looks cool, but I also bet that it has a tacky feeling to it. You know, from afar it looks pretty cool, but when you get up close, it’s kinda blah, kinda not worth it. You know kinda just “why”.

Isn’t that everything related to hot glue though?

Water Rocket

This 2 stage water powered rocket reaches just under 800 feet in elevation.  It’s powered by 3 boosters loaded with 2.1 liters of water each, and a central tube of water.  All of it pressurized up to 200psi.  All together, it’s like 10 fee tall.  I’m not sure why they had to drive 6 hours out into the middle of no where Australia to launch it, but hey, they wanted to be safe I guess.

I remember getting an old soda bottle, filling it with water and pressurizing it up as far as it would go with a cork and pump and watching it fly up.  10 year old me though it was the coolest thing.  I did that for hours on end over weekends.  Eventually, my uncles introduced me to actual rockets that had gun power and explosives in it.  Those were fun too.  All of it was a fun learning experience.  It’s crazy how advanced it’s become and how technical people get with it now.  Where’s all the fun of just hot gluing some cardboard fins to a 2 liter Coke bottle and pumping it full of air to watch it shoot up?

Hot Glue Tricks

Some of the things you find in the subreddit of /r/diwhy.  As the name suggests, it’s more of a question of why would you do this instead of hey, I did this.  I’ve posted quite a few things from it before, most were dangerous.  These tips are really just crazy in the there’s so many other cheap ways to do it, why go through the hassle of using hot glue?

Honestly, I’m pretty impressed that he was able to bend that coat hanger into such an impressive hook more then that it can hold up an unknown amount of weight.

DIY Weed Wacker

Let’s file this under “S” for stupid.  Yes, right up there with the DIY Circular Saw from a few weeks ago comes this impressively dangerous DIY Weed Whacker.  At least in this case the blades (which are actual blades) can actually do some damage.

Hot Glue Help

MAKE recently posted a series of quick tips and uses for Hot Glue.  All of them are pretty basic and things that I have done before.  Well, except using hot glue as an early bonding agent, that’s a good idea, but I don’t do enough work with slow drying things that that’s necessary.

The one genius idea though comes from the guys at Flite Test, they use a dab of hot glue to attach glue sticks together as you’re re-filling it.  This way the stick gets grabbed by the glue gun and doesn’t fall out.  Seriously, how have I never thought of that before in all my hot gluing years?

Starry LED Lamp

Instructables user darbinorvar put together this really cool LED lamp that lights up like stars.  You can watch her build the whole thing in her YouTube tutorial of the process below if you want.  It’s better then going through all the photos individually and remember, I’m lazy.

I really like the random way she marked where the stars should be.  It gives it a much more natural look.  I’m not 100% sure that she needed all of the LED strips she used, but hey, it works, and it only uses about 6W fo it’s all good.I’m very happy that she used warm-white light, it’s muchnicer then the harsh white light.

3D Hot Glue

Combining 2 of my favorite things, Hot glue and LEGOs comes this crude 3-D Printer.  The printing is done with hot glue, and the actual printer is nearly all LEGOs.

I like the basics of it, but he needs to iron out the kinks (in the hot glue too) alittle before you can make anything real usefull out of it.  But then again, who needs usefull when you can just make something.

Plastic Welding instructions

Have you ever had the need to weld plastic together?  Maybe you don’t do enough DIY stuff, or, maybe you just don’t do stuff with plastic, or, maybe you just aren’t strange.

Either way, this is damn usefull information to know.  I’ve spent all these years ghetto molding plastic together with the end of a hot glue gun.  Yes, it was ghetto, but it worked, pretty decently too.  But I might want to invest in one of these plastic welding guns, because as I said above, they are extremely usefull for people like me.

6x6World has the rest of the scans of this instruction manual that looks like it was made in the 1950s.  But thats good, cause like everything form the 1950s, it was made to last.

Basic Instructions usually has some decent instructions, this one was average, but the last panel is what made me like it, because, I love hot glue, love it to death…
