Rangers Blimp
The Ranges fly a blimp around the inside of the Garden during the intermissions. I didn’t see it drop anything, though other people have said other teams have done similar things and it would drop raffle tickets, or give-aways and stuff.

The game was a Win in my book, and The Rangers.  It’s always a fun time to get up and sing the goal song.

There’s an Original 6 match up tonight.  What you don’t know what the Original 6 is?  Go read the wikipedia article on it, I don’t have time to paraphrase it.

NHL Players are Skilled

For serious, look at the puck handling these guys have.  You watch this video and then tell me that pro-hockey players aren’t the most skilled people in all of professional sports.

  • Yes it takes skill to hit a ball traveling 100mph 300+ feet.  But you’re standing still and the ball is being thrown at you.  Hockey is so much more intense than baseball.
  • Yes shooting a 3 pointer is difficult, but you don’t have guys skating into you at a 20-30mph while you yourself are going the same speed.  Oh and you have to watch out for the boards that are fast approaching.
  • Football is rough, I’ll admit that, and you have to catch a ball while maneuvering between a bunch of other guys.  But there’s none of the fancy stick work involved.  Minor hand movements translate to the stick greatly.
  • Oh, and none of this even compares to accurately shooting the puck from 10, 20, 30, 40 feet away at tiny targets, again, all while on ice.

Skating on Ice

Crystal clear ice of a frozen pond in northern Sweden.  So clear is the ice and water that you can see fish swimming below.  This makes me want to move to an area where I can do that.{reddit}

Irish People watch Hockey

It’s always cool showing something for someone for the first time.  In the above, 6 Irish people are watching a hockey game for the first time (supposedly).  It’s an international game, so there are no fights unfortunately, which is something they all seemed to want pretty badly.  I still think it’s a pretty interesting video though.  I like how they compare it to US not understanding soccer.  Also, I agree with the one guy, why show them the period with only 1 goal, skip ahead to the better ones, especially if the game ended with a score of 6 to 1.

NHL Training

Here’s a nice video that shows what’s involved in training some of the best of the best the NHL has to offer:

I never realized just how much non-skating and non-ice workout stuff is involved.  It all makes sense since Hockey is such a physical sport, but still, it’s interesting to see.
