Ready Player One

I have no idea what this movie is about.  Seriously, even after the trailer, it’s not apparent what the plot of the movie is.  But there are 2 Easter Eggs in the trailer that piqued my interest.

If you want to find them for yourself, then don’t read any more.

Return to the Perl

I had heard there was going to be a 5th Pirates of Caribbean film, I just forgot about it.  The above teaser gives us the first glimpse of this movie out next spring.  I must say, it the CGI looks good.  As for the story, no idea, according to IMDb though, Will Turner is returning, so that’s cool.

Hardcore Henry

I’m not sure if I posted this before, I don’t think I did.  I stumbled to the first trailer a few weeks ago and it was on my list of things to let you know about, but I forgot. Sorry.  Here’s another trailer (or it could be the same one, I have no idea) for Hardcore Henry.  The premise is very video-game-centric, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing, or a bad thing.  I think the first-person nature of it will be very difficult for it to make too much money.  But hey, you never know, stranger things have become international hits.

The Dark Tower

Is apparently finally going to be turned into a Movie.  Weather or not that’s a good decision is still up for debate, but Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series is getting the Hollywood treatment.  I’ve read the first 4 books, honestly, they are very slow.  I never got into them as much as other book series, there’s just too much going on and it’s too long winded.  I wouldn’t be opposed to getting back into them at some point, but honestly I’d have to read a wiki page or something because I forget most of what happened.

According to the latest, Idris Elba will play The Gunslinger, and Matthew McConaughey will take over as The Man in Black.  I think McConaughey could pull off a very good Man in Black.  He’s got the perfect vibe for it.  Elba I’m not sure if I see him as Roland.  But honestly, I don’t know too much about Elba, I haven’t seen him in enough to make a good decision.  Currently, it’s scheduled for a January 2017 release date, but knowing the history of this project, that will slip at least once, probably 2 or 3 times by then.  And based on the history of Stephen King adaptions, that’s probably a good thing.

Actually Cloverfield

The latest Cloverfield Super Bowl TV ad.  It raises more questions then it answers to be honest.  But hey, hopefully it’s something good.  I think it might be the first movie of the year I go see.

Actual Stunts in Movies

Something has to be said for actors, and directors doing actual stunts in movies.  Instead of green-screaning everything.  Sure technology has come along way and it’s harder to spot the artificial ones, but having someone actually hang on to the side of an airplane as it takes off is so much better then blowing air in their face and computerizing in a plane.  That is what separates good movies, form great movies, good directors, for great directors.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation comes out this week, it’s consistently been one of the better film franchises in recent memory.  This one looks just as good as the previous.

The Martian

It’s that time of year again, time for the best movies of the Fall season to show their trailers.  We currently have the first non-Star Wars leader in The Martian.

This will mark the 3rd straight year of stranded in space type movies, but unlike Gravity & Interstellar, this one has the markings of being something great.  Mainly it’s because it stars Matt Damon, but it also just looks good.  As Alex over at Filmonic puts it, it’s Cast Away, on Mars, that’s an apt description if I do say so myself.  You can get a pretty good idea from the extended trailer above, but you can also watch the alternative marketing campaign below and meet the crew:

Two words: Matt Damon.  Seriously, how can you not just love him?  You should.

Vacation Time

There’s another Vacation coming up.  It was 18 years ago the last time we officially saw The Griswold Family, they were in Las Vegas, visiting Eddie.  Well, the family is all grown up, Rusty is taking his family off to Wally World.  Yes they’re taking a road trip, yes it looks to be pretty funny, at least I think.  Others seem to think it’s going to be a horrible stain on the Vacation franchise, but if history repeats itself, than this being an odd numbered entry, it should be pretty good.

Nazi Gold

I like Jude Law, he’s sadly not appreciated as much as he should be.  I also like Nazis, so when I saw this trailer, I was admittedly excited.  Afterall, what could go wrong?  Well, alot of things, but I’m not going to worry too much about that, I’m going to be excited and hopefully go see this movie when it comes out, too bad I have to wait until January, after which time it might get lost among other films, and things to be doing, like skiing.

P.S. If you haven’t you should watch Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow,  Seriously, that film is so well done, it’s a shame that it tanked at the box office and will never get a sequel.

The Expendables III

Honestly, I don’t know if I’ll ever get tired of watching this ensemble cast of the biggest action stars of all time teaming together for plot-less action.  The previous two movies have been so enjoyable that as long as they keep the fun, and one-liners, I think that the franchise could last awhile.

And that’s a good thing.  Because hopefully it will give time for Bruce Willis & the rest to patch things up so that he can return.  Because after all, what is an action movie ensemble without the one and only John McClane?  However, I think getting Alan Rickman, and/or Jeremy Irons as the bad guy could really help things along.  Bring back some of the good old days when terrorists were from East Germany, not The Middle East.  When they were professionals, and had manors, and above all never claimed to be terrorists.
