Re-creating Top Gun

There’s a scene in Top Gun where the jets are inverted and pictures are taken.  Naturally, it was a hit scene and people wanted to re-create it in real life.  Using the help of the Patriots Jet Team, photographer Blair Bunting fulfilled that goal. I think it’s super dangerous, but, let’s be honest, so are most awesome things.  Taking photos in planes upside down is nothing new, taking them only a few feet apart is something completely different though.  That required fast timing, luck, and training.  There’s lots of g-forces at play, and there’s also making sure that everything is within safety margins.

The final photo is pretty nice, but it looks quite fake to be honest though

The Tetons in 8K

As the 8th entry into the More Than Just Parks series, Will Pattiz and Jim Pattiz went to Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.  For those of you unfamiliar with this series, they plan to visit all 59 National Parks and produce more of the awesome video footage you see above.  Having been to Grand Teton National Park, I think it’s really cool and interesting to see all these places that I saw.  Seeing it in 8K makes it really pop also.  Those views of the mountain range with the flowers, I felt like I was there, and I felt like it was coming out of my computer (and I don’t even have a 4K monitor).  I look forward to seeing the remainder of their film series.

Patience Timelapse

This 4K Time-lapse called Patience is beautiful.  I’ve made a few time-lapses before, but they were only night-sky ones so they didn’t involve too much editing, or camera movement, or any of the HDR that the above shows.  I appreciate the effort that goes into making one, especially with all the music lined up perfectly like that.  This was done by photographer Paul Richardson, and he has a pretty ace portfolio.

Church Drone Shot

Filmmakers Guillaume Juin and Joris Favraud, over at their company BigFly, did something most people wouldn’t dare, they flew a drone inside a Byzantine Church in northwest France, the  Saint Louis Church in Paimboeuf.  Guillaume is the pilot of the drone, while Joris controls the camera direction, pan, and other video things.  Together they spent time focusing to get the beautiful shots you see above, as well as make sure that the drone doesn’t hit something, or crash, or fall.  Doing that would not only cause the damage to multi thousand dollar drone and camera, but also the multi hundred year old church.  I wouldn’t have tried it.  But then again, I’m more of an outside landscape photographer anyway.
