The One

That’s what they hoped the new Xbox would be.  The One.

Well, not really, it was just based off of the love of The Matrix, and ideas that it would be a unique, immersive world.  The rest of the video goes over some of the history of how the video game console came to fruition.  The idea that the Kinect was going to re-birth the gaming system was pretty ambitious of them considering that Nintendo started that trend previously.

Any Hootie and the Blowfish, that was a pretty neat video, wasn’t it?  I really liked the part when Balmer crashed the party and insisted that the new console be a White Tower of Power.*

*Ok, I made that part up.

Hot Wheels

This is how Trackmania on the Xbox One should have been.  At least I’m sure the controls would have been better.

You Can Never Prevent Judgment Day

YouTube user John Chapman and some of his buddies took some, quite a lot according to them, to recreate the motorcycle chase scene from Terminator 2: Judgment Day in the video game Grand Theft Auto 5.  They didn’t do a perfect job of it, but honestly, I think that’s better.  The subtle differences make for a more unique perspective.

The rest of the videos on his channel are heavy on GTA:5, no problem there but none of them have the name recognition as T-2.

Quidditch in Halo 5

Those of you who’ve played Halo 3 back in it’s hay day know of the custom game variant of Griffball.  Unlimited gravity hammers and swords, and trying to get a bomb in the other team’s goal.  It’s more fun then it sounds.  Well, the above video is a great new take on that game variant.

Xbox user XxHugabearXx made a forge map that looks like a Quidditch Pitch from the Harry Potter Universe.  It’s a very well done re-creation of what I imagine from the movies.  The better part though is the low gravity and the hoops.  That change it from Griffball, into Quidditch.

You’ll need the map, and the Game file, both of which you can easily download for free on Halo Waypoint.

People like make things Burn

Why anyone would design this type of level is beyond me.  But, according to Destructoid, it took 46 hours to beat it.  I’m not sure if that’s from the creator, or just some random twitch streamer.  Either way, that’s too long, stop being crazy.

The Pokemon Card Card

Pokemon Card

As you may have heard, Pokemon turned 20 years old this past month.  That’s right, can you believe it, 20 years and we still haven’t caught ’em all.  That’s gotta be a record.

Well, Englishman Quentin Devine has made a mosaic of the iconic Pikachu out of 12,987 individual Pokemon Trading Card Game cards.

pokemon edge

As you can see, there are individual cards making up the whole thing.  What I find coolest about this is that it’s not just a mosaic of all the different Pokemon making something, it’s the physical.  I find that to be the best.  Physical is so much better then virtual, or computerized.

I’ve made mosaics before, but I tend to use hundreds, or thousands of photos from my trips, or stills from movies to make them.  They come out good sometimes, but I never do much else with them unfortunately.

Charmander FTW

You know when I was a younger man I thought FTW was just another version of WTF.  I think it works better that way in some situations, but that’s me, I’m weird.  Any Hootie and the Blowfish, a student at the University of Leicester, Thomas Codd, decided to use real, actual science to measure the power of the 3 Original Pokemon starters.  His choice – Charmander, by a landslide.

And not just because Charmander evolve into the coolest of all the starters across all the generations – Charizard, no, according to his research, (which is cited!), Charizard’s titular move, Flamethrower, puts out 7 billion (with a B) kilojoules of energy.  To put that into terms us normal people understand, that is enough to power a 60 watt light bulb for over 3,000 years!

Blastoise comes in 2nd at a devistating 386 kilojoules, and Venusaur is last at 194 kilojoules, but really, those two are minuscule.  And now you have the scientific answer as to why you choose Charmander from Professor Oak all those years ago…

LEGO Hyrule Castle

19 Year old Joseph Zawada spent the last 2 years building a LEGO version of Hyrule Castle.  It’s based on the Twilight Princess version of The Legend of Zelda.  It’s pretty amazingly done, I like it, I wish I had the time and dedication to spend building stuff like this when I was younger and more into making things with LEGO.  No information on the number of pieces used, but it looks like there’s a bunch of prefab pieces, so it might be smaller then you think.

Super Mario Maker is Crazy

I’ve never played the game, but I know enough about it to want to get a chance to play it.  Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker on the Wii U has some impressive user-created levels.  Granted, Nintendo themselves have made some pretty damn impossible levels, but these user-created ones are a step above.  They aren’t so much as levels, more of perfect frame by frame jumps and using the elements to your advantage.  They’re fun to watch though, which is why I embedded two videos here:

Pokemon China

No, Pokemon is from Japan you idiot.  Well, not the geographic China, the breakable, often faked, China:

Pokemon Plate

Artist Olly Moss has created these hybrid plates that combine classic China patterns, and classic Gameboy games.  Why, just because, don’t ask.
