Server Issues

I thought that I had everything worked out, but it seems like there are still issues with the new server.  There was a power blip this morning.  For realz, half a second of no power to restart everything (apparently the server is not plugged into the UPS, I should fix that).  The server started up perfectly fine, but the shared folders within the VMs didn’t mount properly.  I thought it was something I could remote into and fix but there was something else wrong and I needed to wait until I got home from work to fix it.

Ugh, never a dull moment here.

Rollercoaster Tycoon – Unreal Style

It’s no secret (or it shouldn’t be anyway), that I love Rollercoaster Tycoon.  I spent many hours of my youth building parks.  Sometimes playing the scenarios, oftentimes just screwing around trying to build giant parks.  My favorites were building multiple mile long coasters with dozens of inversions, yet still trying to keep the ratings down to levels to get peeps to ride it.  In my later years, I got into some more advanced coasters with scenery and interaction between racing or dueling coasters.

My most recent favorites are The Dark Masters, 4 dueling coasters named of course after the Dark Masters in Digimon.

Anyway, imagine what RCT would be like with the above.  It’d be pretty neat wouldn’t it?

Houses are a lot of Work

I apologize for my lack of posts this year.  In case you didn’t know, I bought a house.  Houses are a lot of work.  It’s taken me plenty of time this year getting things set up the way I want them, then spending more time fixing things, and then spending even more time relaxing and going to bed early because I’m exhausted and don’t want to do anything anymore.

I know what you’re thinking.  Is this the end of the blog?

No.

Big N. O. No.

I will remain.

17 Years

The world changed forever 17 years ago.  I remember, I was in highschool, at our welcome to the new school year Mass.  When it was over, the president of the school announced it to us all (it was only around 9am).  We went back to our classrooms and watched it unfold throughout the day.

Some teachers tried to give lessons, some let us watch the TVs and see what was going on.  Most people were quiet and somber.

I remember coming home and listening to the fighter jets flying overhead.  I live just 30 miles north of Manhattan.  F-16s (I remember they only had 1 tail) were flying alot that evening.

I remember watching at home as Building #7 fell.  It didn’t seem like things were ever going to stop.

I’ll never forget it, will you?

New Shoes

You may or may not have noticed, but the blog has some new shoes on.  A few weeks ago the server went kapoot.  I don’t know exactly what happened, I think there was a storm and surge and the server wouldn’t boot.  Either way, the server is up and running now.  I had been in the process of changing over to a new server, I just did not have everything set up and working yet.   And that is why the default theme is here.  I haven’t moved the old one over yet.

In the mean time, enjoy the single:

Yosemite is Open 360

California is on fire. (What else is new).  However, this summer fires closed Yosemite Valley for an extended period of time.  The valley wasn’t at risk of the fire, rather the wind was pushing the smoke into the valley and causing very bad air quality.  Recently the park re-opened, reddit user cesar1894 shared this video of the park created last winter:

I love me Yosemite National Park, it’s quite possibly one of the most beautiful places in the world.

The end of an Era

Earlier this month something unbelievable happened, StumbleUpon closed down.  I didn’t know it was founded in 2002.  I started using it in 2005, or 2006 I think.  I can’t remember exactly, I’m pretty sure that I started using the site well before that blog post, but who knows.

Endless hours, nay, days were spent stumbling across the internet.  I found many a strange photo, or comic, or video.  Some interesting natural? formations.  The whole basis of the Going Green series of posts started from some stumbles.  I had interesting conversations with people, sadly I can’t remember any of their names.

It all started with that browser add-on.  You know, back in the hay-day of browser add-ons.  You couldn’t open someone’s browser without 36 different things opening up, stealing all your cookies, and making life really weird.  Yet back then, no one cared.  I gladly stumbled all over the internet, well into the morning hours.  Things slowed down when I switched to the Chrome browser.  And things practically disappeared when the browser add-on turned more into an iframe.  I guess SU wanted even more of our dataz.  It might have been around this time that they changed their logo from the cool green SU to the strange ugly orange.  I see that as the death of them.

I honestly not have known that they were shutting down had it not been for this Reddit Post.

Regardless, me and my 42k likes will live on forever.  They might not be relevant, they might not even exist anymore, but good golly, they were some great times wasted away on the immature internetz.

Yosemite HD Timelapse

Did you know that I’ve been to Yosemite National Park?  It’s up there as my top 3 favorites.  Along with Gates of the Arctic, and The Grand Tetons.  There’s something special about Yosemite though.  It’s one of the few parks which I’ve been to more than once.  And I’d love to go back there again and again, it’s that beautiful, and that special.

Anyway, enjoy the above time-lapse, it’s enjoyable, and at first glance the music was weird, but on reflection, I like it.
