The Memorial

It’s taken 14 years, but the World Trade Center is finally up to its previous glory.  Complete with the memorial.  Here’s a timelapse of the 10 year construction of that memorial which opened earlier this year:

There’s not much else to say really.

The Sky

SKYLAPSE – AN ARIEL HYPER-LAPSE from Rufus Blackwell on Vimeo.

This is a pretty good time-lapse/video of the sky, as viewed out the window of an airplane.  Whenever I go on an airplane, I need a window seat.  It’s not often that you get to see the world from 35,000 feet above.  It’s truly a unique perspective.

Grand Canyon Pictures

Everyone was wrong, but whatever.  Here are some Grand Canyon Pictures.

They are pretty nice if I do say so myself.  And it really was the most spectacular place in the world to go visit.  I took 1,775 pictures on my camera alone, not counting the 7 rolls of film, 10 minutes of video, and lots of other pictures my dad and uncle took.

We went on a Helicopter ride!  It was awesome! Here’s a video of that:

You should really check out the Panoramas, those are great!

Hello World

I have returned from my trip into the middle of nowhere and back.  It was exciting, and let’s just say, the Grand Canyon is breathless.  I am currently going through all my pictures.

Whoever guesses closest without going over the number of pictures I took gets to look at them!

Or maybe I’ll just post some of my better ones.  I don’t know, I have alot of pictures to go through, and I’ll just say that.

Here’s one view you can look at while you wait for me to finish my daunting task.

Clouds are awesome

Another Cloud Reel … from Delrious on Vimeo.

It’s no secret that I like clouds.  In fact, I would go so far to say that clouds are my favorite thing to photograph.  So, it makes sense then that this video would be irresistible to me wouldn’t it?

Just look at the way those clouds move.  It’s amazing.  I love it.  I wish there were clouds like that at my house.

The Milky Way

Galactic Center of Milky Way Rises over Texas Star Party from William Castleman on Vimeo.

I think that this is an exceptionally cool time lapse video of the Milky Way. I can’t wait to try it out one day myself.

LED Christmas Light display

I have strict rules regarding Christmas Lights – They are not to be turned on until the Day after Thanksgiving. They can remain lit up at night until January 07, the day after the Epiphany. In the time frame, they should be lit up from sundown until midnight at the latest, which in most parts of the country, equals about 6 hours. Those are my rules, follow them or feel my wrath.
Some places, specifically businesses don’t follow them so that they can get more business, and make more money. Like this Japanese Theme park which recently lit up 4.5 million LEDs for their Christmas display:

That looks like a pretty awesome looking LED tunnel to walk through.  In fact, I would love to walk through that, hell, I think I would love to have that in my house.  Damn, why not hook it up with the interactiveness of my LED Table, and man, that would be pretty fucking sweet!

This field of LEDs though in red white blue and yellow though doesn’t look so interesting, this setup outside a house looks somewhat better:

You know what all three of those pictures have in common though?  None of them look remotely Christmasy.  At all.  No red and green. No Santa, no snowmen, no candles, no Nativity, nothing to even suggest that it’s Christmas, just s bunch of lights.

Also, there is clearly alot missing from the classic American Christmas Light set up, specifically sun faded plastic molded works of art lit by 60watt bulbs in a 20watt socket.

Also, this guy wins for the coolest Christmas lights display ever. Period. I love it, even though it’s missing plastic things, it’s still pretty amazing.

The world, from slightly high up

I like pictures of the planet, especially from high up, it makes it look cooler.  So its no wonder I love these photos:

I really want to go visit that one day.

Despite what many think, that’s just plain old steam escaping those cooling towers, and it’s pretty awesome looking above the clouds like that.

I’ve actually seen views like this many times from various heights as we perpare to land into LaGuardia.

Another place on my list of places i want to go visit one day.

My favorite one of the bunch, i love how the water to the left makes it look like there are some blue tulips too, such beauty, even if it is a man made farm.

There’s tons more over here at 640pixels.

The Manhattanhenge

The Manhattanhenge is when the setting sun allignes itself with the cross streets of New York City.  It happens twice a year spaced regurally around the Summer Solstice, on May 28, and either July 12, or 13.

Being the photogrophy person that I am, i think this is so cool!  I wish I knew about this last week, I would have planned a trip to NYC to watch it.  Oh well. there’s next year.
