Deter Package Theives

I like Mark Rober, some of his videos are cool, some are awkward, most are enjoyable.  This one is really interesting he goes into how he stalked his package thieves, then how he enlisted the help of his friend to design and build a glitter+fart bombing dummy package.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but the best part is the ending.  You can trust me and him when he says that it’s over-engineered and just get to the goods.

He clearly built a few of these, if he were smart next year he will start offering them for sale for people.  Though I do wonder how cost-effective it actually is given the 4 phones he might have lost forever and the LTE data plans he paid for them.  Granted, I’m sure they were burners, but still.

Server Issues

I thought that I had everything worked out, but it seems like there are still issues with the new server.  There was a power blip this morning.  For realz, half a second of no power to restart everything (apparently the server is not plugged into the UPS, I should fix that).  The server started up perfectly fine, but the shared folders within the VMs didn’t mount properly.  I thought it was something I could remote into and fix but there was something else wrong and I needed to wait until I got home from work to fix it.

Ugh, never a dull moment here.

Super cool Toy Car Tracks

It’s Christmas time and little kids all over the world are worrying about what Santa is going to give them more than what the spirit of the season is all about.  Well in order to bring their hopes and dreams down, I’m going to show them a set of insane Hot Wheels tracks that they wish they could build and they wish Santa would bring them.

It’s too late now mommy and daddy, you can’t get this stuff anymore.

I like the first one in the skate park, that was pretty ace.

Here’s a better view of #6, it’s not a track it’s an art installation.  Boring.  I do like the speed scale though, that’s ridiculous.  It goes to show that you would never withstand the G-Forces of it.

Number 4 is ridiculous.  There are wooden loops, it’s reminiscence of Action Park in it’s high qualityness.

Number 2 is pretty awesome, from it’s humble beginnings.  It looks simple but then you see how gar along the house and the yard that it goes.  I do like #1 with the PVC pipes holding the track for parts of it.  Pretty neat.

Anyway Enjoy Children.  And if you’ve managed to build a track of equal or better value, let me know.

What happens when you Breath In Noble Gas

Crazy things.  Of course you know that helium gives you chipmunk voice. The others get surprising.  I think my favorite is Xenon, “It almost feels like it’s attracted to the ground”.

It should be noted that this is something you should never do as they very likely can kill you if done in excess and done without any thought to safety.  This guy seems like he should not be doing them.  Especially not with anyone around to help him.  But hey, he good for him.

Rollercoaster Tycoon – Unreal Style

It’s no secret (or it shouldn’t be anyway), that I love Rollercoaster Tycoon.  I spent many hours of my youth building parks.  Sometimes playing the scenarios, oftentimes just screwing around trying to build giant parks.  My favorites were building multiple mile long coasters with dozens of inversions, yet still trying to keep the ratings down to levels to get peeps to ride it.  In my later years, I got into some more advanced coasters with scenery and interaction between racing or dueling coasters.

My most recent favorites are The Dark Masters, 4 dueling coasters named of course after the Dark Masters in Digimon.

Anyway, imagine what RCT would be like with the above.  It’d be pretty neat wouldn’t it?

30 Years

It’s been Thirty years since Los Angeles joined the ranks of cities whose only qualification was to be a victim of a terrorist act.  Though, were they really terrorists?  Their own ranks called themselves exceptional thieves, and one-time kidnappers, not terrorists.  No Hans Grubber and his pals were opportunists, and only cared about money, $600 million worth.  A simple police officer from New York City in town to visit his wife and kids was what messed it all up for them.

Yes, Die Hard is 30 years old this year.  And last December, the Library of Congress selected Die Hard (among 24 other films) it’s …cultural, historic and/or aesthetic importance.  Yes Die Hard fits the bill for all three of those qualifications.  It’s a master piece that holds up surprisingly well given the time period.  I dare you to find another action movie from the 80s which isn’t incredible dated with cheese lines and effects.  I dare you to find another heist movie where the score is still a relevant sum of money 30 years later.  Six Hundred Million Dollars was a lot of money in 1988, it’s still a lot of money in 2018.  When it comes to money, so often the sums are in reasonable ranges for the time period and with inflation, they seem petty by current standards.  No, it will be quite a while (if ever) when $600 million is seen as petty).  Heck, even Ocean’s 11 (which itself is 17 years old already!) was only taking home $160 million.

So, take a seat, grab some popcorn, (or Twinkies), and watch this Christmas classic, even if Bruce Willis says it’s not.

Houses are a lot of Work

I apologize for my lack of posts this year.  In case you didn’t know, I bought a house.  Houses are a lot of work.  It’s taken me plenty of time this year getting things set up the way I want them, then spending more time fixing things, and then spending even more time relaxing and going to bed early because I’m exhausted and don’t want to do anything anymore.

I know what you’re thinking.  Is this the end of the blog?

No.

Big N. O. No.

I will remain.

LEGO Car

That is a life-sized working car built out of LEGOs.  Yes, you read the correctly, life-sized, built from LEGOS.  In fact, it doesn’t even use any glue, all the pieces are being held together by the inherit force of nature that is LEGO.  Based on estimates, this cost about $1 million to make.  Which when you compare it to an actual Bugatti, is a bargin.

However, if you’d like something more affordable, check out the LEGO Technic 42083.  It’s only 3,600 pieces, but it’s also $350.  I guess you can’t win either way.
