I don’t often praise commercials, but every so often a campaign comes along that is just excellent.  I’m talking about the Cadillac ELR Poolside ad.

It’s not a new ad, in fact it’s been airing since The Olympics, but it’s getting new vigor of late due to a new Ford Ad that parodies that one:

I don’t know about you, but the Ford one just sucks.  The Cadillac ad appeals to me, sure I may not be able to afford a Cadillac, but it screams American.  The Ford ad, that reminds me of some third world country.

  • Cadillac – We landed on the moon
  • Ford – We collect shit to make dirt

I’ll give the Ford ad some slack for using someone who clearly cannot act and gave a very wooden performance.  But that doesn’t help that she just stands out from the everything she’s trying to do.  She looks too clean to be collecting shit to make dirt.  I get that they wanted to use the actual founder, Pashon Murray of Detroit Dirt, but she looks so out of place that it detracts from the entire ad.

People have been saying that Cadillac’s ad, which has  Neal McDonough talking to us, is very rich-centric.  I disagree.  He’s showing the hard work of The American Dream. (Not to say that Murry isn’t also, but she doesn’t portray it as well as McDonough does).  Honestly, as a red blooded American, there is nothing not to like about the Cadillac ad.  You’d have to be a damned commie not to get a smile on your face when you watch it.  And that’s where I’ll end this post.
