The smallest Tetris ever

Ah Tetris, are you not the greatest game ever made?  We’ve seen you played on your fridge, in your bathroom, with real people, with paper, and even via DDR.  It appears in your drinks, and on the side of your building.  It is, the ultimate game.

The real question is, where has Tetris not been?  Well, until recently, that answer has been on a micron level.  Using super highly focused lasers, and microscopic glass beads, students at VU University Amsterdam have constructed what I will call the most elaborate game of Tetris I’ve ever seen.  They even put the soundtrack in, how ace is that?

Now, we need to create an atomic version of Tetris.  Or are regular atoms just that to begin with?

The best film of 2012?

Well, probably not.  Hell, not even the most anticipated.  But I can tell you one thing, this film will be the ultimate best ride of 2012 funwise.

Look at that cast, it’s a who’s who of action stars.  If you thought the first Expendables had a dream team,  this one ups it with the inclusion of Van Damme & Norris.

Yes. Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis & Arnold Schwarzenegger are all in the same film. Notice I bolded & italicized that, just to get it to hit home for you.  There’s also a bunch of other people in it, some newer action stars and stuff, but come on, none of those people would have a career if it weren’t for the 6 people mentioned above.

I think Chuck Norris has the best introduction in that trailer too.  He’s walking along all cool, takes off his sun glasses and is like yea, that’s right, I’m Chuck Norris.

The first Expendables was good, not great by any means, but good.  There were some good lines, but not the always quotable Die Hard.  Hopefully 2 will be just as good, or better, cause I really want a 3rd film.

And here’s my cast additions for that one:

  • Samule L. Jackson
  • Steven Seagal
  • Harrison Ford
  • Matt Damon
  • Jean Reno

Yesterday, December 7, 1941

Listen to this, or read it, whatever you want:

Mr. Vice President, Mr. Speaker, members of the Senate and the House of Representatives: Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation, and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its Government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese Ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese Government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday the Japanese Government also launched an attack against Malaya.

Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

And this morning the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.

But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces—with the unbounding determination of our people—we will gain the inevitable triumph—so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese Empire.

The American Christmas

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=B9CgYvcq7u0

I’m torn with those decorations.  They are clearly very, very well done.  But they aren’t really Christmas themed.  They are 4th of July themed.  Sure there’s a tree over in the corner, but it’s still a Red, White & Blue tree.

Also the pop remix of God Bless the USA, not a fan.  But, that being said.  I understand, and apperciate the amount of effort that went into making this display.  It is easily the most patriotic thing I have seen in a very long time, and if there’s one thing I am, it’s a patriot.

The ending is good, a fade out of the American Flag.

I still think this person should do a 4th of July version of this, but with fireworks.

The Day of Infamy

The world was changed forever 70 years ago.  I’ve written before on the drastic changes to the world had that event not have happened.  I’ve also never finished that story, oh well, maybe I’ll continue on.

This unprovoked attack rocketed American support of World War II, and jump started the American economy.  Never before, (and so far never again), has the nation been so fully united.  Everything was diverted towards the war effort.  Everything was diverted towards defeating the Japs & Nazis.  Everything.

This is not new information to me in any sense, but to alot of other people it might be enlightening, but this recent xkcd comic shows just how much America contributed to the war effort.  4 trillion dollars.  Trillion with a T.  And this was money we were happy to spend.  If I were alive, I’d gladly pay all my taxes better the war effort.

But I digress, this post is about history and sacrifice, not money and politics.

Pearl Harbor was an important day, not just in American History, but rightly so in world history.  It is a day of Infamy, it is a day to be remembered, it is a day that changed the world.  Take time out of your busy life and remember those who fought on this day and in the following 4 years.  Those who gave their lives to make the world a better place

We didn’t start the fight, and we wanted to mind our own business and stay out of it, but when we got forcibly thrown into the ring, we stuck to the end, and won.  Total and complete victory.  The world was a better place.

Stuffs

Did you notice that the blog got a facelift?  I hinted at it last week, and said I’d get it out eventually.  I really just got it out like the next day.  But I didn’t want to say anything in case it broke and I needed to fix it right quick.  Anyway, that’s that.

I’ve slowly been setting up my Christmas decorations, and upgrading my computer and been overall busy.  But that will soon change, for the winds have switched directions and the sails of adventure are in full swing.  I’m pretty sure that metaphor made no sense, but guess what, I don’t care.  This is my blog, my post, I’ll write what I want.

An important date is coming up, I might have a story for you, or I might get all sentimental, I haven’t decided yet, Zelda has been distracting me alot recently, and so it will be again.

Anyway, tl:dr, new theme, check it out bitches.

Why Minecraft? Why?

Blame chris.  I do.  It’s totally his fault, he sent me the video, he made me watch it.  Ok, blame done.

I don’t really get Minecraft.  Why would you spend so much time trying to make something that looks so shitty (pun intended)?  The resolution is not there, it’s all blocky, it’s time consuming, it’s just eh.  I’ll never understand it.

That being said, this is impressive.  Not pretty impressive, cause it’s so much a waste of time it’s ridiculous, but impressive nonetheless.  I appreciate the amount of work that went into it, but it’s just not something that I could spend a week or so doing.

Speed is awesome

This picture has been staring at me for the past few weeks and I’ve been meaning to post it I’ve just been busy with a big redesign process.  Don’t worry the new theme should go live sometime this week.  Anyway that ad for Netflix was in my Google Reader when I got to that post.  I thought it was hilarious.  Now granted, for many people, Speed will be included on that list, (or most likely just a list of horrible movies), but for this particular listverse list, it was absent.

I find it hilarious that Netflix knows so much about me.  But knowing what I know from where I work, that doesn’t surprise me.  In fact what does is that they choose Speed to be shown instead of Die Hard, or any Bruce Willis film for that matter.  Because let’s face it, I can list a half dozen Bruce Willis movies that are so bad they’re awesome.  Chief among them, Hudson Hawk.

Notice that I said that the films are so bad they’re awesome, not hilarious.  There’s a difference, hilarious can still be bad, awesome is the exact opposite of bad.  So Hudson Hawk is so bad that it’s good, awesomely good.  How does that work?  Don’t ask questions.

The Earth, From Space, in HD!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=430ykbW1zqA

This video is required to be watched in HD.  I’m not even sure why YouTube has a non 720p version of it.  It was taken from the ISS using a regular Nikon D3S and stitched together all Timelapsy to make that.

Have you watched it in HD yet?  Why not, you’re not allowed to read the rest of this post until you finish watching it in HD.  I don’t want to spoil anything, but it’s pretty damn impressive.  Kinda makes you want to be an astronaut doesn’t it?  I mean, what with going into space and all that, seeing what home looks like from all the way up there really must be something.  This quote sums it up pretty well.

It also makes you hope that Google is getting their ass in gear and getting that giant space elevator built.  Honestly, I can’t think of a better way for them to spend their trillions of dollars.  And make no mistake, Google has trillions of dollars.  You know how many servers Google owns.  You know how much gold that adds up to.  I’ll save you the trouble of figuring it out, alot.  At any time Google could just close doors and say, yea, we’re done here.  Or better yet, since they like buying stuff, they could/should just buy a country, they’d save themselves alot of trouble that way.  Although, if they made a space elevator, they can then start to search space for extra terrestrial life & figure out how to get context specific advertisements to work while you ride their free (everything Google does is free) elevator up to LEO and then catch a shuttle to the Moon.

Back to the land of seriousness, did you finish watching that video yet?
