The End of the Earth

Ah, New Year’s, time for end of the earth History channel specials!!  How it’s so fun to watch people get paranoid about things that will never happen.  Not much has changed in the last 2 years, same old things the “scientists” are claiming will kill us.

Now that was a neat little video, how about a cool CGI video of how the earth would look like after an asteroid of about 15 megatons hits the earth.  Isn’t that cool?  I think so.  Although, things like that would mean that my bunker would not work at all, so not cool. I could do without the music though, that’s alittle eh.

If that’s not enough, here’s proof that the robots are on their way and flying among us.  Some CS students over at Stanford University have created A.I. Helicopters that have taught themselves how to fly by watching, and learning human controlled copters.  Why?  This is just inviting disaster to come among us, it must be stopped, and it must be stopped now before these robots become self aware.  We have the power to prevent our own extinction, we must use it.

Now if you’re an AM radio listener, then maybe you should check out the station UVB-76. It’s a Russian/Soviet transmitter that transmits a single tone, and nothing else. There were 3 voice transmissions in the 20+ year history, all in Russian, 2 barely recognizable. Maybe it’s a sign that the end is coming? Probably not, but still some creepy stuff to think about on this New Year’s Eve. You’re Welcome by the way.

Well, that’s that for this year’s end of the world post. I bet you thought it was gonna be longer, and more interesting and all that stuff. Well it’s not.

Water Glass Music

This guy is really good. That much is certain.
I can’t help but think of Miss Congeniality when i watch it though, cause that’s what she did. Also, have you ever tried to do that, it’s not as easy as it looks.

Useless Machines

Rube Goldberg machines are useless.  Period.  They make a simple task infintely harder and l0nger to do.  That being said, they are awesome to watch.

Except for this one though, it’s possibly the most boring one I’ve ever seen.  Mostly because it wasn’t perfect, and there were alot of things that didn’t work.  But also the camera wasn’t that great, and it was hard to see what was going on.

Still, it’s a pretty decent video, and an amazing event, I wish i could have gone to it, it would have been interesting.

Now, here’s a LEGO ball contraption that’s much nicer, the video is perfect, (professional quality cuts, and editing and music I’d say)

At first you don’t know what the three different things are for, then bam, he puts them all together. Very nice, very useless, very fun to watch for hours on end.

The Airplane Desk

This desk is long enough, it’s just not wide enough for my liking.  I like my desk wide, like 3 feet or more.  You can never have enough desk space, and a 21inch monitor looks better 19 inches away from your face as opposed to 7.

Anyway, I like airplanes, and this would be my desk, or one of them anyway.  I saw one a long time ago that had no glass on it, the actual wing section was the top of the desk.  Probably not as level as the glass, but just as cool.

You can get the above photoed desk for a cool $4,100. Or you could get it as a gift to me.  I did graduate this year and all!

Current stats for The Robot Army

Look at those stats.  Lucky for me I live in America, we’re at the low, low end of that chart which is good because it means we have longer to live.  Obviously Japan will be the first to succumb to the robot overlords, but it’s ok, as far as we know, the robots still can’t protect themselves from an EMP blast, and America has plenty of nukes to go around.

In fact, all of Asia itself is a trouble spot, I would worry that things could start going south there at any moment.  Luckily Japan is an island nation, and we will have some advanced warning of any pending invasion of the mainland.  Our navy could cut them off and prevent some deaths depending on the advancements of the robots.  If all goes well though, we should be able to block off our country and some others that want it.  Unfortunately, the only way to truly remove the threat the robots pose is to destroy them all before they gain sentience, that is an issue.

Paracord – The bracelet that can save you

Sticking with the bracelet theme from the other day, comes the Paracord Survival Bracelet.  It can unwind up to 15 – 20 feet of 550lb paracord.  If you ever get in a situation where you need it, unraval your bracelet and you’re good to go.

What’s even better is that if you ever do use it, all you have to do is send what’s left along with a story about it back to Survival Straps, and they will send you a new one, for free.

If bracelets aren’t your thing, you can get rifle slings, dog collars, watch bands, and soon belts.  It is a really neat idea, and I like it.  I would buy the belt cause those seem cool, plus, then i could be like James Bond in Goldeneye, almost anyway.

Tetris in a non Screen format!

My favorite video game of all time has been remade in a custom made piece of jewelry on sisicata’s Esty store.  I’m not much of a jewelry person, I don’t even wear a watch (because i break them alot), but I would wear this on special occasions for sure.  Special occasions like my wedding probably, my funeral definitely, and my inauguration as world dictator of course.

Just look at that detail there, it’s amazing.  The worst part of it is that it’s not interactive, but the very nature of it being a bracelet means that that is forgivable.  It also means that Tetris has made the jump from the video game screen to the person.

Is there anything that Tetris cannot do?  It helped me pack my car this weekend to go home, it helped me be not bored in class nearly all year, and it helped me live a better life.  Yes, Tetris has improved my life in 3 simple steps, ASK ME HOW!!

Excellent idea to hold stuff

These socket-deer antler holders are the most ingenious idea ever.  You plug your phone charger into the wall, and then put your phone on the antlers and let it sit there and charge.  Much better then letting it dangle on the floor!

The only complaint I have is that the plates should be in the standard US form, with the circle shapped sockets, I like those better, I’m weird.
