Contest to build our eventual destruction

A contest in Singapore is challenging users to build a working robot that is capable of maneuvering in urban settings, move into, and out of buildings, move up and down stairs, use an elevator.  Oh, and no GPS for the urban settings either.  The reward, 1,000,000 Singapore dollars, which is about $650,00 US.

Granted, this may all seem like simple stuff that won’t lead anywhere.  But that’s this year’s rules.  Next year there will be newer rules that may include searching for survivors (of the recent robot bombing run?), by breaking down walls with attached laser beams.  And the year after that, it will be use those laser beams to destroy targets.  And eventually, one or more of those robots will become self aware, and then turn on their masters.  And since they will already be capable of moving in and out of buildings, and up stairs, and elevators, there will be no stopping them.  They will come for us, so this contest must not be allowed to continue, the sake of the future of all mankind depends on it!

I urge you all to go out and buy Daniel H. Wilson’s book (pictured above): How to Survive a Robot Uprising: Tips on Defending Yourself Against the Coming Rebellion go to Amazon to get it, or go to your favorite bookstore, just don’t send your robot dog out to the corner store to pick it up, it may seem cute, but you’re just training it for the future.

Apocalyspe scale

A chart from 1 to 5 detailing the chances of human survival, animal survival, and biosphere survival due to a number of different doomsday scenarios.  My favorite one being X though, because it deals with the unknowns…

Open the Future

How true this is

xkcd again you hit the nail square on the head.  Many a day i have spent in front of Wikipedia following links from one article to the next, often staying up into the wee hours of the night, or wasting away the precious hours of work.  I have yet to hit a dead end in terms of following links.

Optimus Prime controls your iPod

Holy crap is this not the coolest thing in the history of the world?!?!?!!!!!!!!11

It’s an iPod dock, that transforms into Optimus Prime.  Granted the all white theme isn’t very true to life, but still, it is the most awesomest thing i have ever seen this year, (iPone, you had your time).

Now all that’s left is to muster up $150.  And hey, who knows, maybe they’ll have the retro colored one for when the movie comes out in July, seeing as how this is a preorder and will arrive in July.

more about the lack of posts

Well, i still don’t have the ability to tell you about what has happened, but i can tell you that way more has indeed happened, and none of it is any good.

I will tell you that the site may experience some technical difficulties in the coming days, it may be moving to a new home, (yay), it may be getting a new theme (yay), it may be getting a few other things, but through it all, we will be back, and we will be here.

You cannot destroy us, you cannot scare us, we will live forever, it is our destiny…

Lack of Posts

Ok, there is a big and understandable reason for the lack of posts for the last few days, and the next few days. I’m not allowed to say it yet, but sometime before the end of the week it will be made public.

And, just so you all know, its bad news for us, but maybe you guys can help us out some way…

Gameboy iPod with Video

This skilled DIYer took apart an old Gameboy,  that’s the original one, The Brick, and inside it, was crammed an iPod.

He even wired up the A/B buttons Start/Select, and D-pad to the iPod’s click wheel controls:

The headphone jack is on the bottom, and it even has a dock connector, how awesome is that.

Now you can play the iPod version of Tetris the way it was originally intended to be played…

Reading between the lines of Star Wars

We all know the the Original trilogy is the better trilogy, but the fact remains, Star Wars consists of 6 (so far) movies that were released out of order, such that 4, 5, & 6 came out first, then 1, 2, & 3.  Now, for anyone this would have created headaches beyond recognition about how to string the story arc together.  Yet Lucas managed to do it in a way that ended well (ROTS was the best of the prequels).  However, if you read between the lines of episode 3, and 4, you get some interesting facts.  And this guy managed to piece together a basic understanding of what happened.

It’s an interesting read, and not to long, so if you’re a Star Wars fan, or you just have nothing else to do, look it over.

I didn’t know that…

Dozens of things that most people just, don’t know.  This site I did not know that yesterday! gives you all sorts of information that is widely unknown.  I spent the better part of last night looking through the first 100 posts, then it got late, so i looked through some more now, and i learned alot.

Everything from the difference between the terms: All Wheel Drive, and 4 Wheel Drive, to how many cars there are on he planet, to where do flies live.  Very interesting things, and none of the lessons are overly long, just a short few paragraphs describing the topic.
