In honor of the the 57th birthday of the VHS, YouTube has a new special mode on select videos. Unfortunately, you have to go to the actual site to see it. You might be thinking 57 years, that’s along time. Anyway, go watch All Your Base, the way you’ll recount it to your children.

As of July 01, 2013 Google Reader will be no more. This is some of the saddest news I haveRead this...

As of July 01, 2013 Google Reader will be no more. This is some of the saddest news I have ever read on the internet. Based on this Reddit thread, I am not alone in disappointment.

Look at these stats:

Damn impressive.

Or, on second thought, pretty misleading. Since the items I’ve clicked is a better representation of what I cared about. But even that is not so true. Since I always click on Buttersafe, since only thumbnails appear in that feed. But then most other items I’ve clicked on I wanted to share with someone. And instead of using the share buttons on the bottom of each post, I just copy the link and IM it to whoever I want. Or copy the link to then post here. Still, I usually do read a fair amount of them, probably 40% total I read, the rest I skip over. Since I follow a tech blog, a gaming blog, and a few DIY blogs, there’s plenty of cross over, especially around events – live blogs, E3, and so on.

Anyway, I digress.

WHAT. THE. FUCK. GOOGLE.?

(yes, that’s a period & a question mark, deal with it.)

One of the reasons Google cite’s for the death is declining usage. I can understand that, but somehow, I think that the total number of Google Reader users is 5 or 6, or even 10x more than many other popular services on the internet.

For the past 8 years Google reader has been the only site I go to every single day. It has been the only place I get my regular news. It has been my go to place for all the things I’m interested in.

Sure Stumbleupon took up a good amount of my time, and recently Reddit has taken SU’s crown, but I still get all my main news from Reader. In fact, I often don’t consider news official until I see it in my feeds.

I honestly don’t know what to do about this. I’ve never tried any other feed readers. I’ve never had a need to. Unfortunately, it looks like I am going to have to familiarize myself with them, disappointing.

TL:DR:

Not cool Google, not cool.

It’s that time of year again. Time for the most underrated film of the summer trailer to come out. This year it’s the sequel to Kick-Ass. And with the addition of Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes, I am stoked. A. he looks like a super hero right up my alley, B. this could be a return of Jim Carrey of earlier years. (but probably not).

Anyway, I don’t know much about the film, I haven’t followed it nearly as much as it’s predecessor, but I intend to go see it in the theaters when it comes out this summer. At least it’s keeping the R rating of the first one, that’s a sigh of relief.

Everyone should sign this petition right now.

For those who can’t read, it says this:

So come on internet, let’s try and make this real life Jurassic Park come true. After all, what’s the worst that can happen? As the never-wrong Hollywood has shown us in the past, hours of fun and excitement for children of all ages can be had. Plus there’s all the science involved with genetics, biology, paleontology, computer programming, smoking, and electricity. What more could a growing kid ask for?

Also, I really just want to be able to get a real life version of the cane John Hammond used, but that has no bearing on this actually happening or not.

Another edition of Alternate History Thursdays, this one doesn’t focus so much on history, as it does on a theory to take on an actual product.

The product, is the single greatest platformer of the SNES generation, Donkey Kong Country. I’ll let the video do the major explanation, but since it’s unwatchable at certain points, here’s the gist:

America (King K. Rool) is evil, and exploitative, destroying native island nations, for their fruit and oil. And Donkey Kong is a native trying to fight the man, and there’s a surprisingly large amount of actual history that correlates to events of the game, if you look at it through the patented 2 shooter ice bullet glasses™.

As much as this somehow fits actual events, I’m gonna have to slot this into the Alternate History version of America. Because only there would it be OK to refer to American solders as Kremlings.

{reddit}

But it’s not Thursday you say. It is, in an alternate version of history, where Thursday is the 3rd dayRead this...

But it’s not Thursday you say. It is, in an alternate version of history, where Thursday is the 3rd day of the week, preceded by Valkday, and Monday (still gotta start on Monday, otherwise everything else is all messed up).

Anyway, welcome to the first installment (in this version of History), of Alternate History Thursdays.

I present you The Star Spangled Banner played in minor key, it’s simply Red:

So, what happened in this version of History that our Nation’s National Anthem is played differently?

Well, let me tell you:

Many things are similar, and in fact, you’d be able to use many of the same history books and lessons you learned today. Except for one a few key differences, America is a slightly communistic nation. I know what you’re saying, Karl Marx wasn’t even born yet, but that’s not an issue. This is an alternate version of history, there are literally infinite ways I can explain that away. Perhaps he was, or perhaps Jefferson, Franklin and the rest of the gang were commies at heart.

Anyway, America, the Communist Empire that stretches from sea to sea, and pole to pole is truly the greatest nation on earth, and everywhere we go, we have to proclaim the greatness of the land.

Let it be known that were I ever to be transported to this version of History, I would immediately die.

Sadly, you were half right, this is only a single video on one of my favorite types of energy, Nuclear. I felt it’s too important and usefull to get sent to the ether of Going Green Part IV. So instead I made this III.V post, like it, love it, read it.

It’s a Holiday miracle!

Although, I have to say that this one was not nearly as good as the previous ones. The song was probably the best one after the first, but the whole thing itself felt short. Very short.

It looks like this could be the end of the series, but I doubt, and hope that it’s not.
