How many clicks does it take to get to the center of a LEGO brick?

Unlike the question this is modeled on, we have an exact answer - 37,112.

Well, almost exact. You see, Phillipe Cantin tried LEGO Bricks from the 1970s. His reasoning being he wanted to see how older bricks would fail, then switch to newer bricks. Then change the brick type up, then add some Transformers into the mix*.

Anyway, over the course of 10 days, running constantly, Phillipe got his magic number, now in true scientific fashion, he has to repeat the process a couple more times, so that he can get some more data points, then publish it, and hopefully get a PhD out of it. That’d be so ace.

*I made that up

This my friends, is one of the strangest games, I have ever had the pleasure of playing on the internet. Strange, but somewhat enjoyable, except the stupid text adventure part where I spent like a full day with it open trying to figure it out. Frog Fractions, has some innovative parts to it. But the stupid text adventure, unlike chris, I went through the text adventure, unfortunately, I only made it halfway through before i went searching for help on the internet, I found it, then beat it.

The ending is satisfying, if only because you know you made it through the stupid text adventure part.

No replay value though, so it’s no Pandemic. But deffiently play it for the laughs, there’s enough of them.

Some people call fake, I don’t. I mean, calling it fake is like second nature on YouTube. First is calling it gay. Besides, anyone who takes things written in the comments on YouTube as serious should have their reading abilities revoked.

I’ve done stop motion before, and it does take along time, and until you get to the end and see how they say they do it, you might think it’s a fake. But once you get the projector and the pictures then it’s easier.

However, I will say this, I do think that the way they ultimately choose to do it is cheating. Part of the appeal of stop motion is the choppyness of the animation you get, and the length of time it takes to make it all.

Way less destructive then these awesome Artfull Books, actually, not so destructive at all, but since i used the Artfull title before, I can’t go and call this a sequel. It is just as hard to make I’d say. Having to fold down each page in the right order,. and the right number of times to spell out them words. I’ve picked 2 more of my favorites below, but you can see the whole book on Flickr. And no, I did not plan on the songs when I choose the words, they just came to me (well, except the last one).

You know what the best thing about concepts is, how ridiculous they are. I like to place bets as to when an individual concept will make it from the Photoshop render, to a prototype, to a working prototype, to a consumer product. So far, exactly one thing has made it to the end, and I lost that bet.

Anyway, after the click you got my 3 favorite concepts form the past month or so of my stumbling around the internetz. Enjoy them, and remember if they ever come out and become products, I owe someone a dollar*

Paper to Pencil

To start off we have the waste paper to pencil recycler thing by Yanko Design. They claim they don’t know how it works. That’s because it doesn’t work. It’s a fucking concept of an idea that someone had. The idea behind it is to take paper, and tightly wrap it around a lead pencil core. So you get to recycle the paper that you go through like candy into pencils that you’re lucky if you go through one a month. Hell, I still have pencils on my desk from 10 years ago. Not a very “green” way to do stuff, unless you sell those pencils. But as can be seen in the photo, the pencil still retains some information from the paper used, so big companies with secrets to hide wouldn’t exactly benefit from selling pencils that you can put together like a giant jigsaw puzzle of their crimes against humanity.

That gives me an idea on how to encrypt some information though…

Windstalk Power

If there’s one area of the world that has more concepts than all the others combined its the so called “green energy” one. On an average month I will come accross at least 10 new concept designs that plan to revolutionize the way we make electricity, and live our every day lives. 200% efficiency rates, removal of carbon from the atmosphere, and peace on earth. Those are actual promises I’ve read about claims to these awesome environmental friendly solutions**.

The most interesting, or at least interesting in the sense that I understand how it works and one day, many, many moons from now, it could become a real technology,*** is the Windstalk power generators.

The idea behind this new and exciting power generator is that it uses the expansion and compression from these tall stalks bending in the wind to produce electricity. Now, from what I understand the way those piezoelectric parts produce the electricity while the wind blows. And because of the turbulance inside the tightly packed “park” they will bend and sway more and create more power. Now that’s a pretty neat concept, and then they take it one step too far by saying the concrete bases will collect water and allow plants to grow wild in the no-mans land inbetween. Thought that wasn’t enough, well each stalk has an LED that will glow with the intensity of the power being produced creating a nice ambiance effect, and they hope that people will want to walk through there at night under the artificial stars and enjoy the quite clean energy being produced.

Riiiiiiiiiight.

Here’s an idea, why don’t you buy 30 or 40 acres up in Nevada, and build this out with your own money and then see just how successfull it is. Then you can shop it around to the different cities and towns with all your feel good happiness stuck on for good measure.

Air Umbrella

The air umbrella is perhaps the simplest thing, that simply will not work. The idea is to have a plastic stick that sucks air in from the bottom, and blows it out the top super fast to protect you from the rain. Cool right. Wrong. You know how fast the air will have to be traveling to protect you from the elements. Very fast. So, you know what that means, you need a super powerfull, and therefore super loud motor in the stick to move that air. Then that motor will use up electricity like there’s no tomorrow, and you’ll need some major batteries, or it will only last 10 minutes.

Now, say you’re walking down the street and its raining out, you don’t care cause you have a hat on, and the rain doesn’t bother you too much. But you see this person walking too, they have no umbrella so you get close to them to pass, and BAM! hit in the face with cold air and lots of water. That’s enough to make most people flip their shit. Lucky for the other person they have a giant heavy stick cannon to defend themselves with.

*no one will get a dollar

**may or may not be true.

***in an alternate universe

I always wondered how they got those tracks into the street like that. It seems very complicated and indepth. But it only took 3 1/2 days according to the description, at a cost of $1 million. I’m not sure what was wrong with the old ones, of it it was just time to replace them or the city had stimulus money that they needed to spend on something. But it’s an interesting watch. I watched all 12 minutes of it, you don’t have to, after the first few minutes, it pretty much is just a repeat of everything else. I would say watch the end when their pout the concrete, that’s pretty cool, cause I was wondering how they were gonna do that. Well, I hopped for black top, but they went with concrete, but whatever, still interesting.

Well, not really, but that’s a pretty impressive picture, especially since it was made 30 years ago, before photoshop. There’s a couple of others, but that one by far is the best.

Concepts are weird. Some are amazing in their ingeniousness, while others just scream wtf.

This Water Shield for fruit is somewhere inbetween those two. It’s a completely new idea, but something thats completely cool too, (in a “I wonder if this will ever work the way the picture shows” kinda way). The idea behind it is that bugs, and germs and animals, and ghosts can make it through the plastic, or glass covers that you would put around fruit (if you put anything). But they can’t get through water. So a solid flow of water from a bell fountain would cover the fruit and protect it from all forms of badness from fruit flies to ectoplasm.

Now that part is all simple and very easy to make. The neat part is that there are sensors in the top of the tower that detect your hand, and will turn off the water flow in that one spot to allow you to reach through, grab your fruit, and run away without getting you, or your loot wet in the process.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

That’s how it works, it’s really simple in theory, but then again, so is nuclear fusion.

No acting yet, and not much else to see about the film. But so far so good. Hopefully it will be as awesome as I am hoping it to be.

I made a demand that it be shown in my area, you should too. (Demand it in my area, and yours)
