Ever wanted to see what the solar system does to earth? Well, geology.com has a nice Google Maps set up with locations of many meteor impact craters on earth. Most are not very vissable due to errosion and ovegrowth, but a few stand out.

While waiting inline at the Apple Store in SoHo last night to see Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway promote their new movie Get Smart, this car passed by which clearly has the Zune logo on it’s spare wheel cover, and on the side window. Clearly that person is obsessed.
Here’s a bonus picture of me and John Hodges after the event.

We missed Steve, and Anne apparently, but John was walking around, and caught a picture with him. Stephen Colbert was also there, he did the interview, we missed him walking out too.
Well, it seems someone at Google is listening to us (but they already said they were). Google Finance has a favicon:

I like it, it fits, and it is Googly, unlike their new “g” one…
Well, it seems that there are a whole bunch of people who don’t like Google’s new favicon that they switched to last week. John Michael Boling set up an internet petition to bring back Google’s old one.
Turns out that he really didn’t have to go through all that trouble, cause Google says on their Blog that they want your ideas. And they even let you submit them! You have till June 20, 2008, so get to it!
While doing a Google Image Search earlier, I noticed that the favicon changed from the old capital G in the Google font, to a lowercase blue g still in the same font, but much more…different.

![]()
That got me thinking what the other favicons look like, so I went to all the Google services I used most, and then some others, and put them in a bookmarks folder in Firefox 3 (to make it easier for me and you, only one screen shot).

I can’t seem to figure out the reasoning behind the giving out of special Favicons to different services. At first I thought it was by popularity, but surly, the number of people who use Google Maps is exponentially higher then those that use Google Notebook. And why the seemingly random phase ouf of the old Google Favicon to the newer one? I’m all for change, but I don’t like the new favicon too much, it’s not “Googleenough” if you understand what I’m coming from.
In reality though, the people in charge of each service probably came up with a favicon, and used that. I suggest that some maybe designers use their 20% time to make some more specific favicons. I’m talking about Google Finance, that blank background is really annoying sometimes.
Note, blogger is by itself because of two reasons, 1. it took forever to finish loading, and 2. I forgot about it when it did. If there’s any other Google services that have different favicons, please tell me, but I think I found all of them.
Awhile ago Google started a Doodle 4 Google contest among school children accross the country, well here are the finalists of the over 16,000 submitted. Vote for your favorites here.
The ones below are the ones I voted for:

In the K-3rd grade category:

In the 4-6th grade category:

In the 7-9th grade category:

In the 10-12th grade category:

One thing i noticed was lots of themes of world peace, and save the planet. Well, i think that both of those are old, and hot button issues on the public’s mind right now. Neither will ever go away, so there’s no use wasting time on them. Anyway, I’m not gonna get into all that, it’s silly, and for it’s own post, so until next time…

How Google Works, is a nice flash animation, (the only thing i think flash is good for), giving the best, simplest, most accurate description of how Google does a search.
This looks like it could be a really fun game. The only question I have is how come YAHOO is with Microsoft? It should be Apple that has that spot, simply because it would go better. Sure Yahoo and Microsoft are Google’s main compitetors, but, they are two different companies. If you were gonna put Microsoft, then Apple is the clear opposite, if Yahoo then I would say probably Amazon.
They also could have put some more Google related services in, but I do like how they have mostly the lesserknowns on the board.
I like the pieces, and the houses/hotels:
I would buy it it someone made it. I would feel better buying it if it were an Official Google product you could buy at the Google Store though…

One of the more interesting features to be given to Gmail is it’s new Custom Time feature. It allows you to send an email with a timestamp in the past, which will show up in correct chronological order in the user’s inbox! You can even send it to be marked as read already! To avoid tempral-paradoxies, and the like, they utilize the new, efficent, e-flux capacitor, and smartly, do not allow you to send email to before April 01, 2004. Also, they only give you 10 uses of this new feature per year, citing some pretty advanced math for the reason.
I havent used it yet because I only have 10, and I want to use them for something that counts. But I can’t wait till I do. All the testomionals (save 1) praise it!
On a real note, I hope Gmail does get some new features today, it has turned 4.
Yesterday Google released the Google Talk Chatback feature for Google Talk users. It’s really easy to implment, just add the html code to anypage and you’re done!
I added it to the blog yesterday its on the left see ===>
When it’s green that means I’m available, and you can talk to me, try it out some time!
Also, as a side note, i hope Google would hurry up already and update the desktop version of the client, I’m tired of Gmail Chat getting all the new features…
